Popular Nigerian singer Niniola told her younger sister who is also a singer Teni that “You Have To Start Wearing Wig”. Teni Replied Epically that; If I wear a wig, you would start wearing durags too”. Niniola Apata, better known by her stage name Niniola, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. She rose to recognition in 2013 after finishing third runner-up on the sixth season of Project Fame West Africa. Pop-star Niniola is the older sister of singer Teni the entertainer.
Since Teni launched her music career with the infectious “Fargin” – a product of multiple freestyles, she has quickly become a fan favourite, scoring numerous awards with every hit she drops.
Teni’s 2019 is off to a great start as she welcomed the new year with the accompanying video to her inspirational single, “Uyo Meyo”. Not letting us recover from the high of the heartwarming song, she just released stunning promotional pictures from an upcoming project. We’ve said it before that Teni’s style is as great as her music, and this shoot is no different. For the campaign, she chose bright neon colours to match her vibrant personality. The hats, durag and puffy jackets also remind us of Missy Elliot, another talented queen whose style is also stunning. Shot by the talented Anny Roberts, Teni stands out in pieces specially curated by Nigerian streetwear brand, Sanusi Lagos
In less than two years, Teni has earned her place as one of the most talented musicians working today by consistently dropping hits. Considering how even her random freestyles end up being solid bops, we can’t wait for her debut album. You can check out other pictures from the shoot right here:
Teni is undoubtedly the rave of the moment, talking about the Nigerian Music industry. She made her debut about three months ago, but right now, her music is dominating the airwaves. Teni’s voice is amazing! The singer, younger sister of Nigerian pop star Niniola, makes her own catchy pop songs that’re designed to lift you up, her honeyed voice skimming and swimming through sunny production from the likes of Spellz and her regular collaborator Jaysynths.
Her early single, late 2017’s “Fargin,” was the first to catch wide attention, letting her shine as an artist in her own right, and later as a songwriter as well, penning her own tracks and others’s (a notable one being Davido’s “Like Dat”). Eventually, she’d sign to Nigerian producer Shizzi’s record label, and later release music through the Atlanta and Nigeria-based Dr Dolor Entertainment.2018’s been an exciting year for her, as she’s lowkey dropped several catchy ass singles. My favorite’s this summer’s extremely addicting and extremely danceable “Askamaya.” Other notable ones are the Nigerian World Cup kit craze-inspired track “Fake Jersey,” and last month’s slow-rocking, Joni Mitchell-sampling “Rambo.”
The latter track’s a gas yourself up doozy, perfect for those wake-up-and-hype-yourself-in-the-mirror moments. She’s dropping two new songs tomorrow, and I’m sure they’re going to go.Who is this “mysterious” lady that has taken over the Nigerian music industry by storm?
